"Growing
for the Market" ~ This series offers current and aspiring
farmers the opportunity to learn about the emerging consumer demand for
locally produced farm products and identify which of these products is
appropriate for their operation.

Snow Fences are plantings that create a vegetative barrier that
traps and controls blowing and drifting snow, reducing the need to
shovel and plow. Check out the snow fences that aren't orange!

2009 Regional Master Gardener Training
Classes
have been scheduled for DeKalb, LaGrange, Noble, and Steuben Counties.
Areas of training include plant science, plant nutrition, and soils;
insects, plant disease, and weeds; vegetable gardening, herbs, and roses;
annual and perennial flowers; tree care and identification; house plants
and lawn care.

Indiana Master Naturalist Classes

Classes have been scheduled.

Gain knowledge of and hands-on experience with Indiana's plants,
wildlife, geology, and geography. You will meet other Hoosiers
with interests similar to yours and gain personal satisfaction from
"giving back" to your local community through service.

Tree Planting Grant
Opportunity ~ The Indiana DNR Division of Forestry and ExactTarget
have formed a community tree planting partnership to assist with small
to medium communities, neighborhoods, and nonprofit organizations in
purchasing and planting trees on public property.

Grants are available to cover up to 75% of the cost of installing rain
gardens, rain barrels, pervious concrete, green roofs, bioretention,
wetland restoration, and naturalized wet-bottom detention basins.
